We are seeking a detail-oriented compliance professional to own the end-to-end process for vehicle registration, permitting, and ongoing compliance obligations. This role operates at the intersection of legal, operations, engineering, and regulatory affairs to ensure our autonomous vehicle (AV) fleet is consistently authorized, compliant, and ready for deployment. 
In this role, you will:

  • Manage vehicle registration and AV permitting activities across state and local jurisdictions, including initial applications, renewals, modifications, and decommissioning
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Operations on necessary documentation to support registration (e.g., VIN verifications, Manufacturers Certificates of Origin (MCO), vehicle inspections)
  • Process and track state autonomous vehicle permit applications and renewals, including with the California Public Utilities Commission and Nevada Transportation Authority 
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle identification, registration status, and permit requirements
  • Oversee autonomous vehicle safety driver qualifications and permitting, including by reviewing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks to ensure driver eligibility, maintaining up-to-date driver files and documentation, and conducting regular audits
  • Track filing deadlines, upcoming renewals, and eligibility changes and ensure timely submissions
  • Support internal audits, external inquiries, and regulatory inspections by maintaining strong documentation and clear traceability of all filings
  • Partner with Legal and Regulatory Affairs on regulatory requirements and translate them into internal processes and controls
  • Work closely with Operations to anticipate needs for new markets and fleet expansion, along with other day-to-day support (e.g., insurance, traffic citations, and tolls)

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in compliance, regulatory operations, permitting, fleet management, or a similar function
  • Strong organizational skills and a comfort working with detailed, repeatable processes
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume, detail-heavy workflows with multiple deadlines.
  • Clear written communication and comfort working with cross-functional partners
  • A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn AV-specific regulatory requirements and work in a fast-moving environment

Bonus qualifications

  • Ideal background includes experience working for a fleet manager, car dealership, automotive retailer, rental car company, or state Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing vehicle registration, fleet operations, or autonomous vehicle permitting
