About the Role

Are you a results-driven scheduling professional with a passion for managing large-scale, complex technical construction initiatives? We are seeking an Area Schedule Lead to oversee end-to-end schedule management across assigned sub-regions and campuses within the Midwest region. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, protecting project outcomes, and ensuring schedule and cost integration across Google’s data center portfolio execution.

You will serve as a key technical liaison and trusted advisor—connecting project management teams, General Contractors (GCs), Data Center Site (DCS) teams, and extended workforce (xWF) suppliers to deliver critical infrastructure safely, quickly, and collaboratively.

What You’ll Do

In this dynamic role, you will lead the scheduling lifecycle from pre-construction through completion, driving acceleration, identifying opportunities, and managing project constraints. You will:

  • End-to-End Schedule Management: Oversee the full scheduling lifecycle across assigned sub-regions/campuses, including pre-construction schedule development, schedule localization, cut-ins, and coordinating with General Contractors on schedule creation.

  • Schedule & Cost Integration: Drive schedule and cost integration as the default approach across all deliverables; provide schedule inputs for risk management, change management, and Time Impact Analyses (TIA).

  • Stakeholder & Contractor Oversight: Manage deliverables and performance of extended workforce (xWF) suppliers, evaluate and review GC schedules, and partner closely with Project Managers, Cost Leads, and DCS teams.

  • Drive Acceleration & Mitigation: Proactively identify opportunities for schedule acceleration, negotiate MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) sub-schedules, and mitigate project delays.

  • Governance & Reporting: Establish sub-region and area-level consistency in reporting, analyze Early Warning Slips, perform schedule benchmarking studies, and review schedule narratives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Initiate solutions and best practice implementations to increase efficiency, optimize project velocity, and incorporate lessons learned.

Position Details

  • Role Type: Contract (3–4 month initial duration, leave coverage with potential for extension).

  • Location & Travel: Remote-friendly, with preference for candidates located in or willing to work within the Central Time Zone (e.g., Midwest or Texas). Up to 25%+ travel required on an as-needed basis to visit data center project sites across the Midwest region (Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri).

  • Primary Sourcing Focus: Kansas City area / Central US region.

Required Qualifications & Key Skills

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Industrial Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Total Experience: 7+ years of experience working with large-scale, multinational, aggressive, and dynamic technical construction projects.

  • Technical Construction Experience: 5+ years of experience in high-tech facility construction with direct responsibility for planning, scheduling, or field execution.

  • Industry Scheduling Tools: Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard scheduling software (specifically Primavera P6).

  • E2E Schedule Management: Demonstrated experience overseeing schedule creation, baseline management, localization, and contractor reviews.

  • Schedule & Cost Integration: Expertise in linking schedule metrics directly to project costs, change management, and risk frameworks.

  • Extended Workforce & Stakeholder Leadership: Track record of managing xWF/third-party vendors, general contractors, and cross-functional project leads.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Data Center Construction: Prior experience building data centers or large-scale industrial builds (e.g., Oil & Gas, Pharmaceuticals, or heavy infrastructure).

  • Systems & MEP Knowledge: Strong understanding of Mechanical and Electrical (MEP) systems, constructability, and construction means/methods.

  • Advanced Delay Analysis: Hands-on experience with Time Impact Analysis (TIA), acceleration requests, delay recovery, and schedule crashing.

  • Resource Management: Experience with work packaging, productivity tracking, and resource management.

  • Communication & Adaptability: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact smoothly across multi-layered teams, challenge contractors constructively, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
