“The pandemic has shed a light on these companies and they're not looking too good.”
JOHN CHUANG / CEO, AQUENT
“They’re in their own universe of labor laws,” Aquent CEO John Chuang tells Yahoo! Finance. Gig economy companies have their own versions of minimum wage, workers comp, and other employment norms, all offering far less than what they should be. “They should not have a different set of rules just for them,” added Chuang, pointing out that other companies manage to take care of workers and provide products and services consumers want. Aquent is a workforce services company that has offered benefits to its independent contractors and part-time workers for decades.
